The Saltworks in the Camargue

The salt production in Aigues-Mortes goes back to Antiquity.
Peccius, a Roman engineer at the beginning of the Christian Era,
was put in charge of organising salt production.

The water's rose coloring is linked to the proliferation
of microorganisms of microscopic algae variety
called 'dunaliella salina'.
